Community Funded Journalism

Community Funded Journalism logo

The Columbian reporters are the storytellers and the recorders of Clark County. They are the scouts invited into our community’s homes, streets, workplaces, wildlands and government buildings to seek the truth and report it.

The Columbian’s new project, Community Funded Journalism, opens the door for community members to support local journalism: stories that uncover the truth about homelessness, housing, transportation and the environment. These stories uncover what’s working and not, and they bring our community together by sharing experiences of those we interview.

The project will fund additional reporters at The Columbian, allowing the entire reporting staff to specialize more in their own categories of coverage and dig deeper under the surface of their stories.

Community Funded Journalism launched in April 2022 with support from the Ed and Dollie Lynch Fund, Patricia, David and Jacob Nierenberg and the Mason E. Nolan Charitable Fund, and also donors through our crowdsourcing initiatives. Through our fiscal sponsor Local Media Foundation, the Community Funded Journalism Project can accept tax-deductible donations.

The Columbian editors will maintain editorial independence over all stories. No donors will know what specific stories the reporters are pursuing, nor will they see stories before they’re published.

Local Journalism Is Essential

The Columbian was founded in 1890 and is a fourth-generation, family owned media company that is the leading source for Clark County news. We are committed to providing truthful, non-biased news to our community: an essential service for a healthy democracy.
