A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew rescued a dog that had fallen off a cliff on New Year’s Day in Oregon’s Ecola State Park.
Before the Coast Guard arrived to rescue the dog, named Leo, first responders from several fire departments were setting up to rappel down the cliff side, according to the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard crew deployed a rescue swimmer who moved the dog into a hoisting basket.
A helicopter then lifted the dog and rescuer and landed in a parking lot shortly after 4 p.m. to reunite the dog with its owners. It was not immediately clear what led to the dog falling off the cliff.
