Letter: House goings-on are unseemly

I remember the time when journalists referred to lawmakers as “Solons” (though it is even longer ago that their readers knew what they meant by it). But after the unseemly goings-on during the Fourteenth Round of the Fight for the House Speakership, I think nobody will feel the urge to take Solon’s name in vain anymore.

What will they do next? Horse-whippings on the House floor? Will the Reading Clerk have to wear full-body armor and a helmet when she calls the roll? At least Donald Trump boasted that he could shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue in broad daylight without suffering the consequences; not that he would do it on the premises of Congress.

O tempore, O mores!
