So there have been two bridge projects in the news lately. They both cross state lines (Washington to Oregon and Kentucky to Ohio) and have a metropolitan area on one side and a less dense area on the other.
One of the projects features four blue federal senators, two blue governors, two blue state Houses and two blue state Senates. The other features one blue federal senator and one blue governor (on different sides of the project). One just reelected two blue federal senators (of apparently high value we’re told) and the other a rookie red federal senator, and reelected another red federal senator. One also just flipped from a red to a blue federal House member.
One of these bistate projects features tolling and one does not. Given that we have a blue president, a blue federal Senate, and a totally dysfunctional red federal House, which of the two projects should be toll free? Guess which one doesn’t require light rail, either?
How exactly are we winning by voting blue? Even when we add in the No. 1 blue prize (light rail) we still end up with tolls while the other project (which is as red as a ruby) does as they please.
