Two-state chase ends in arrest of Vancouver man

A Vancouver man was arrested Tuesday following a car chase that started in Douglas County, Nev., and ended in Mono County, Calif., according to Nevada TV reports.

Charles Qoroya Evanson, 39, was booked on suspicion of felony evading a peace officer, delaying a peace officer and driving under the influence of drugs, according to KOLO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Reno, Nev, citing the California Highway Patrol.

Around 2 a.m., the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office alerted the CHP that Evanson was driving south on Highway 395 out of Gardnerville, Nev., and was tossing suspected drugs out the window.

The vehicle crossed into California near Topaz at 2:13 a.m. The highway patrol tried to use a spike strip but were unsuccessful. The chase continued south through Bridgeport toward the community of Lee Vining. Mono County, Calif. sheriff’s deputies joined the pursuit, KOLO-TV reported.

The highway patrol deployed spike strips again and stopped Evanson’s vehicle, the agency said. Evanson exited the vehicle and ran, but deputies captured him after a short chase, the CHP told KOLO-TV.

In all, the chase covered more than 80 miles and lasted more than an hour at speeds of up to 80 mph, according to Reno’s NBC affiliate, KRNV-TV.
