Vancouver seeks help in shaping city’s future

Vancouver city staff urge residents to apply for a seat in the city’s strategic plan advisory committee if they have an interest in shaping Vancouver’s future.

Those in the committee serve a two-year term and are expected to help develop and update Vancouver’s 2022-2027 strategic plan. Doing so helps advise the city on its decision-making and creates a road map for achieving long-term goals.

Committee members work with the city manager to facilitate community outreach, improve communication between the public and city, identify needs in Vancouver, and further its progress toward its goals.

Applicants should have a decent knowledge of their communities and a history of community involvement. They should also display a willingness to attend at least one meeting a month between February and June.

Members are asked to invest eight hours a month to aid in the development of Vancouver’s strategic plan. Tasks may include preparing for meetings, engaging with people who have a variety of perspectives, reviewing surveys and outreach data, and applying these measures to the city’s plan.

After the strategic plan is created, committee members will meet throughout the year to advise city staff on its implementation.
