Police heightened security Monday at Battle Ground High School after officers were unable to determine the credibility of an implied threat of gun violence at the school.
The Battle Ground Police Department said it became aware Friday of a threat of gun violence for a specific time and date at the school. The agency did not disclose specifics of the threat but said investigators immediately began working with the school district, according to a news release. After investigating the threat, officers were unable to determine its source or credibility.
The department increased its officer presence and security at the high school Monday as a precaution, the news release states.
Police said Monday evening the case is now suspended until investigators learn new information.
“As always, we take every threat seriously, particularly when they involve schools,” Battle Ground police Chief Mike Fort said in the news release. “We have no reason to suspect this is a continual or ongoing threat. We would like to thank everyone who provided information in this case.”
