Letter: Tell Congress how it can help

Ellen Sward wrote in her letter to the editor about the “myriad of issues” facing President Biden and our nation (“Much work to be done,” Our Readers’ Views, Jan. 22).

Yes, our president has his hands full and could use our help to push his agenda through Congress. The pandemic has made it especially difficult for families to keep food on the table and to pay rent to keep a roof over their heads. These are the basics that people may lose through no fault of their own.

We can help by writing our members of Congress and asking them to increase SNAP benefits (food stamps), for as long as the pandemic crisis continues and to build on the proposed $30 billion increase in emergency rental assistance by including $28 billion in additional funding to keep renters at most risk of eviction in their homes.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
