A kitchen fire extended into the attic of a Salmon Creek area home Wednesday afternoon.

Clark County Fire District 6 crews were dispatched at 2:27 p.m. to the 12600 block of Northeast 35th Court for a report of a residential structure fire.

The first arriving crew found a small fire in the kitchen of the ranch-style house. More crews were requested to respond as firefighters began extinguishing the blaze from outside through a window, spokesman Kevin Todd said.

Once the fire was under control, firefighters entered the house and discovered the blaze had extended into the attic, Todd said.

The fire was quickly extinguished, in about 12 minutes, but the house is likely uninhabitable. The resident is seeking shelter for the night, according to the spokesman.

No one was injured as a result of the fire. A dog was being kept in a separate structure on the property, but it was never threatened and the pet was reunited with its owner at the scene.

The Vancouver Fire Department assisted during the incident.

A Clark County fire marshal is investigating the cause.
