Letter: Herrera Beutler earns respect

I have been a frequent critic of Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, since she displayed what I perceived to be unwarranted support of Donald Trump, despite his obvious tendencies. He always was, and still is, focused only on himself and what benefits him.

But her recent vote on impeachment was a momentous occasion in that the congresswoman stood with nine of her peers in the Republican Party to appropriately confront the true nature of his quest for power, and the ultimate threat to democracy he was willing to instigate to keep it. She has already been condemned by some in her district for this action — but the congresswoman has earned respect for this stand.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
