I thank our Clark County Councilors Julie Olson and Temple Lentz for their letter condemning the violence in our nation’s Capitol and the need for all elected officials to protect our democracy (“Councilors condemn violence,” Our Readers’ Views, Jan 12). I call on all Americans to put aside our differences and work in a collaborative way to improve the lives everyone.
COVID-19 is the only war we should be fighting, and not with each other. I am very concerned we could end up having to institute crisis levels of care here as they just have in California. We have hope on the horizon with the vaccines. However, we need to have our National Guard to help with COVID-19 and the vaccine injections, and not have to have them protect us from each other. We need more testing and to all follow recommendations to prevent the spread of the virus.
A congresswoman from our state, Pramila Jayapal, now has COVID-19 four days after the mob tried to overthrow our democracy and where some people refused to wear masks to protect others. I truly believe we can work together, and we are blessed to have many leaders in and from Clark County that can help us problem-solve for all. Please choose to fight COVID-19 and not each other.
