COVID-19 claims five in Clark County as new cases surge

Public Health reported 185 new cases along with the new deaths on Wednesday

Clark County’s COVID-19 post-holiday resurgence continues with 185 new cases and five deaths reported Wednesday.

Clark County Public Health reported that the five fatalities were a man in his 50s, a man in his 60s, a man age 80 or older and two women age 80 or older. All five had underlying conditions, Public Health reported.

The deaths lift the death toll from COVID-19 to 149 as the total number of positive cases hit the 14,000-case mark. There has been an average of just over 181 new cases per day since Dec. 31, a marked increase over new cases reported in the last week of December.

Active cases, which tracks people with COVID-19 still in their isolation period, rose to 1,103, up 91 from the day before.

Hospitalizations rose to 78, up from 76 the day before, according to Public Health data.
