Two recent stories, “Supply chain issues, shortages alter Vancouver school menus” (The Columbian, Dec. 10) and “California pushes composting to lower food waste emissions” (Associated Press, Dec. 9) show the big challenge with our food system.
The story about school lunches reports: “It’s challenging … We think we can get an item in and then warehouses will have to tell us all of a sudden it’s gone.”
The other story covers a new California law that makes residential food waste recycling mandatory. That story said “it is the single easiest thing that each person can do to affect climate change.”
For many years, our area has been growing our emergency food supply system.
We now need to coordinate our efforts with the school districts and our local waste pickup companies to provide supplies needed and begin a curbside food waste recycling program.
