There is not and has never been an actual “pro-life” movement. What exists is a “pro-birth” movement, dedicated to forcing every pregnancy to term regardless of the circumstances.
This largely involves self-righteous zealots wanting to control women, whose latest argument is that the Constitution does not specifically allow abortion. (The Constitution also does not specifically allow women the right to vote; shall we take that away too? If they want to take us backward, why not consider a time when religion was not political?) But once a child is born they could hardly care less about it.
They don’t support groups such as Planned Parenthood who help young unwed mothers, nor birth control or sex education, both of which can significantly lower abortion numbers. Meanwhile, millions of living children go to bed hungry every night, while others have no bed at all.
I offer the following compromise: When those of you who so desperately want to control the private lives of others put forth enough of your wealth or income so that every child already living in America is properly clothed, fed, housed, educated and cared for from birth to adulthood, then I will consider your concerns about “potential” life that does not yet actually exist.
Otherwise, forget it. Your ear-shattering hypocrisy drowns out every word you say.
