Lower Columbia gets a sweep of Clark basketball teams

Sean Johnson scored a game-high 19 points for the Clark Penguins, but Lower Columbia was able to pull away in the end for an 87-77 non-conference victory Thursday at the O’Connell Center.

Clark (2-2) had a narrow two-point lead twice in the final 8 1/2 minutes of the second half.

Lower Columbia (3-1) was able to gradually pull away. The Red Devils went 6 for 6 from the free-throw line in the final 1:23.

Johnson, a sophomore from Danville, Calif., also had a team-high seven rebounds.

Skyview High grad Levi Nickelson added 13 points. Liam Clark scored 12 and Brax Jensen had 10.

Lower Columbia was led by Sherman Royal’s 18 points. Skyview grad Kyle Gruhler had 14 points, and Ky-mani Pollard and Keylin Vance each scored 13. Soloman Campbell led in rebounds with nine.

WOMEN: LOWER COLUMBIA 66, CLARK 41 — The Red Devils held the Penguins to 18 first half points on their way to the non-conference victory.

Camas High grad Haylie Johnson led Clark (1-4) in scoring with 10 points. Chloe Wright had eight rebounds and seven points.

LCC sophomore Jazlynn Novelli led all scored with 15 points. Camas grad Katelynn Forner had seven points for the Red Devils (4-0).

UP NEXT

The Clark women host Centralia at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Clark men will play the Corban JV squad at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
