WOODLAND – Steal, score, repeat.

Steal, score, repeat.

That pretty much summed up the Washougal girls basketball team’s 75-31 domination over Woodland on Wednesday at Woodland High.

The Panthers looked every bit the No. 4 team in the 2A state RPI rankings.

Washougal forced 23 first-half turnovers and led 47-8 at halftime.

Washougal had five players score in double figures, led by McKinley Stotts’ 14 points.

And most importantly, Washougal’s defense absolute befuddled a Woodland team that entered Wednesday in third place in the 2A Greater St. Helens League. The Panthers (15-2, 9-0) had 17 steals, many of which led to fast-break baskets.

“We work so hard on defense every day in practice,” sophomore Samantha Mederos said. “When the game comes, our chemistry clicks and our defense comes together and the steals get going.”

Washougal had Woodland on its heels early. Jaiden Bea, who scored nine of her team’s first 12 points, converted a four-point play to put the Pantehrs ahead 12-4 early.

Then the baskets started flowing. The Panthers were hot from outside, hitting eight 3-pointers for the game.

Washougal also found the open player with crisp passing. That resulted in 23 assists, with freshman Chloe Johnson accounting for a team-high seven.

“We were pressuring them really well on D and hitting our shots when they were open,” Skylar Bea said. “We were passing the ball really well this game.”

Skylar Bea entered Wednesday coming off three straight double-doubles. She finished with eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

Jaiden Bea had 13 points and nine rebounds. Kailee Neyer had 11 points and was 3 for 3 from 3-point range. Johnson and Sevea Mansfield each scored 10 points.

“Everybody is really contributing,” Skylar Bea said. “We have good chemistry now.”

Payten Foster scored 11 points to lead Woodland (11-5, 5-3).
