Letter: Looking for a signal

Kudos to The Columbian for its editorial about turn signals (“Use turn signal when appropriate while driving,” The Columbian, Jan. 5), and for Dameita Schmidt’s letter about red light runners (Our Readers’ Views, Jan. 7). In addition, the state has created a problem. Our traffic signals extend over the street. Unlike other states, however, there are no additional signals on the vertical standards. The result is that if you are following a truck, van, or bus, you can’t see the signals as you approach the intersection. If the vehicle in front of you enters the intersection on the yellow, and you follow it, you are likely to run the red. It is a negligent design, and I’m surprised that the state has not been sued over it.
