Educational Service District 112 launches therapeutic learning program

MEADOW HOMES — Educational Service District 112 recently launched a therapeutic learning program for students in Clark and Cowlitz counties. Called Spero, the program aims to support students in grades six through 12 who struggle with mental health and as a result, participating in school. “Spero” is Latin for hope, and the goal is to provide students with a combination of academic and mental health support in a safe, small educational setting. “Navigating the traditional public school setting can be extremely difficult for students with social-emotional or mental health issues, and all too often they end up avoiding school altogether,” said Spero Director Sara Hatch. “Our program allows these students to comfortably return to a group learning environment, receive personalized support from our team of care providers, and work toward an eventual return to their school of origin.” Students who qualify for the program are recommended for placement by their school district’s individualized education program.
