I am an NRA life member who believes that an ammunition magazine limit of 10 rounds will likely be more than sufficient for my self-defense needs. Most civilian self-defense scenarios involving the use of a firearm follow the “rule of 3s” (3 shots, 3 seconds, 3 yards). I do not foresee a need in my lifetime (hopefully another 25 years!) for the many high-capacity magazines that I own.
However, the Second Amendment is not about my personal self-defense or even deer hunting. The Second Amendment is about preventing tyranny. Period. High-capacity magazines increase the efficiency and effectiveness of firearms. I pray that future generations will also have no need for high-capacity magazines, but I will make sure that mine are always kept in the family.
Outlawing these magazines in Washington will not help the state cure or limit the mayhem. You can’t. It will simply serve to absolutely flood the state with 15- to 30-round magazines through panic-buying, thus making them more available to the next deranged individual. The bear is sleeping. Don’t poke him.
