For the past nine years, Dan Larson has coached boys. As a varsity assistant at Hudson’s Bay, Fort Vancouver and Mountain View, Larson learned the ropes.
His first year as head coach, though, is with the Thunder girls.
“It’s been a transition,” Larson said. “There’s lots of positive to coaching the girls. This is the most coachable team I’ve been around. You tell them what to do and they’ll do it.”
That’s a good thing for the Thunder, who bring a fresh-faced group into a jam-packed league. All-league pick Paytin Ballard transferred to Hudson’s Bay. Dejah Wilson transferred to Columbia River.
That leaves Jenna Carlson, a 5-foot-8 senior guard, as the lone all-league returner.
“She’s going to provide big minutes for us and be a senior leader and voice of the team,” Larson said.
