Letter: Flex Academy gives to community

My name is Savanah Sirois. I am a Family and Consumer Science teacher at the Flex Academy in the Vancouver school district. Many people have not heard of the Flex Academy before. It is a small high school with just under 100 students. We are another option for students to earn their high school diploma from Vancouver Public Schools. We are the perfect safe haven for students who have experienced great trauma in their lives, and the big-school setting just won’t work for them.

My Real Life 101 class and I created a fundraiser to raise money for bikes to give this holiday season to local foster kids in need. Our class raised $1,300 to buy about 12 bikes and helmets of different sizes.

We will work together as a small school to build these bikes just before winter break on Dec. 20. We will wrap them with ribbon and bows to gift to the foster children in our community. After school ends that day, we will team up and carpool the bikes to the children in need.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
