It was amazing to me to read the Associated Press story “Analysis finds guns sold by law enforcement found at new crimes” (The Columbian, Jan. 9), that various law enforcement organizations in our state would sell their guns, perhaps naively believing that only law-abiding, responsible people would buy and use these guns.
I am glad the Associated Press pursued this practice, checking the 6,000 guns sold this way since 2010 and finding many being possessed by felons.
Has anyone ever considered destroying guns?
I also don’t agree with Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler voting to allow persons with permits to have concealed weapons in one state to be able to carry in other states. Since Congress doesn’t have the courage to pass reasonable gun laws, some states have done so, and I believe they should not have their laws thwarted with this bill.
