Having lost its last four games, Woodland’s 2A Greater St. Helens League clash against R.A. Long took on extra importance for coach Andrew Johnson.

“It was a must win for us tonight,” Johnson said. “This was the most important game of the season after having that stretch of not playing our best.”

Playing its first game in 11 days, Woodland came through with a 62-38 home win.

Palmer Dinehart, Isaiah Flanagan and Tyler Flanagan each scored 14 points. Dinehart added 12 rebounds while Wyatt Harsh had six points and eight rebounds.

Leading 17-13 after one quarter, Woodland (6-5, 1-2) clamped down on defense. The Beavers allowed just six points each in the second and third quarters.

“We made them turn it over quite a few times in the press,” Johnson said. “It wasn’t just a one-person effort tonight. It’s what we needed.”

Jacob Thompson scored 17 points to lead R.A. Long (4-7, 0-3).
