Letter: Highway 500 not improved

By Kathleen Ternberg, Vancouver

I thought state Highway 500 was built to alleviate the heavy traffic load on Fourth Plain Boulevard.

Since Falk Road/Northeast 42nd Avenue and Stapleton Road/Northeast 54th Avenue have been closed to through traffic, Fourth Plain has become bumper to bumper. It may now take two to three traffic signals to get across an intersection.

It’s also interesting that Highway 500 traffic still slows down at these same roads because of merging oncoming or exiting vehicles. The severe right-hand-turn corners may be the problem. The upright reflectors have proven to be too much of a challenge for some drivers, as many, if not most, of the pieces have been sheared off in the first two weeks of display.
