Coach Matt Gruhler credited his team’s zone and man defenses in part for holding the Chieftains to 10 of 31 shooting from 3-point range in the Storm’s nonleague victory. It’s the Storm’s first over River in Gruhler’s five-year tenure as head coach.

While Skyview began the game on a 10-0 run, River pulled within one with 2 minutes to go. Late-game free-throw shooting sealed it behind Jovon Sewell (13 points), who hit 3 of 4 at the line as well as a 3 from Kyle Gruhler, one of six on the night by the Storm.

Kyle Gruhler finished with 12 points. Alex Schumacher had a game-best 23.

Jacob Hjort’s 13 points led a balanced River scoring attack.
