EUGENE, Ore. — A Eugene woman has been cited after she posed on Facebook asking for advice after cutting off the tail of her pet bearded dragon.
The Register-Guard reported that the 26-year-old woman was reported to police last week after she posted photos of the apparently malnourished lizard online. She received a citation for first-degree animal neglect on Saturday.
The woman posted photos on a bearded dragon owners’ page asking how help her pet through the shock of losing her tail. She posted that her husband had amputated the tail after veterinarian recommended it be removed due to “tail rot,” a condition where the skin doesn’t shed completely and builds up over time.
She said she loves her pet but that she couldn’t afford the vet bill to have it done professionally.
