WALLA WALLA — Officials with two grain cooperatives in Southeastern Washington have approved a merger of the groups’ operations.
The Walla Wall Union-Bulletin reported that board members from Walla Walla-based Northwest Grain Growers and Dayton-based Columbia County Grain Growers voted in favor of the merger, which will take effect May 1. The cooperatives will become a single company called Northwest Grain Growers.
Company officials in a joint release say the merged cooperatives will serve about 1,700 members and generate more than $2 million in gross sales.
The new company will be headquartered in Walla Walla.
The Dayton office will remain open to customers in the Dayton and Waitsburg areas.
Officials say the unification of the companies is meant to improve members’ marketing power.
