There’s just one more day to comment on the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the rail-to-marine oil transfer terminal proposed for the Port of Vancouver.
Friday is the deadline to submit remarks to the state Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council, which will use the comments to finalize the environmental assessment before making a recommendation on the project to Gov. Jay Inslee, who has final say.
Some agencies have waited until the last minute to send their concerns. The Multnomah County, Ore., council on Thursday passed a resolution opposing the oil terminal and sent its concerns to Washington’s evaluation council.
“Regardless of whether crude-by-rail ultimately travels through Oregon or Washington, the potential impacts on the Columbia River Gorge are simply not worth the risk,” wrote John Wasiutynski, director of the Office of Sustainability for Multnomah County.
