The Clark College basketball teams swept a doubleheader Wednesday against Chemeketa.
Clark women
The Penguins won their fifth game in a row and moved into second place in the South Region of the Northwest Athletic Conference standings.
Shantel Aleki was 9 of 12 from the floor, scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Penguins to a 62-49 win over Chemeketa.
Kendyl Cone added 14 points. Bryn Tennyson had 10 rebounds, and Caylee Newsom had five steals and five assists.
“Defense is the reason we’re being successful right now,” Clark coach Al Aldridge said. “We really limited their shots. They shot a dismal percentage.”
Chemeketa was 17 of 61 (28 percent) from the floor.
Clark men
The Penguins led by eight points at halftime, then put on quite the display in the second half for a 91-72 victory.
Bryan Berg led five Penguins in double figures with 17 points. Aubrey Stephens and Eris Windler each had 15, Micah Paulson added 14, and Glenn Baral scored 10.
“One of our better second halves, in terms of how we locked in defensively and rebounding,” Clark coach Alex Kirk said. “That was encouraging.”
The Penguins were plus-13 in the rebounding department.
Paulson led the team with six assists.
Clark improved to 15-3 overall, 6-0 in the South Region of the NWAC.
