I’m always glad to be reminded about the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his question, “What are you doing for others?” The Jan. 12 story reported that “MLK Day of Service volunteer opportunities abound.” The opportunities are endless; thanks for the ones mentioned.
For people who can’t make it out for one reason or another (I caught the flu bug from a grandkid) you can still do something. For example, call U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, and ask her to co-sponsor the Reach Every Mother and Child Act (HR 3706/SB 1911) that will target ending the preventable deaths of millions of mothers and children under 5 in our world. This bipartisan bill asks for no new money, but makes our developmental aid agency, USAID, more efficient.
This is one action we can take with a phone, computer, or even pen and paper to make a life-saving difference for others.
