BEND, Ore. — An Oregon Department of Justice investigation found that no election laws were violated in the 2016 Deschutes County sheriff race.
The Bulletin reports that current Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Kozowski challenged incumbent sheriff Shane Nelson for the position. Kozowski said he and his supporters were harassed and received unequal treatment.
The DOJ released its findings in a letter to Nelson in November. The sheriff did not distribute the results until Tuesday.
The letter says Kozowski, Nelson and 12 others were interviewed as part of the investigation and emails between them were reviewed.
