Letter: A call to the Electoral College

As a mental health professional it is clear to me that our country is in a state of denial following the election of Donald Trump. How can it be that the leader of the most powerful country in the world is a failed reality star who has practiced and preached racism and sexism? Trump has proven himself to be uncompassionate towards others, shows no regard for our Constitution, and turns to Twitter rants as a way to cope with criticism. Really?

As Trump chooses his cabinet of reprehensible characters who have proven records of hate and incompetence, are we supposed to sit by and accept this? Really?

We are better than this! I call on the Electoral College to break through this denial and perform its constitutional right and duty to protect the country by casting its votes to the candidate who has demonstrated respect for our democracy, espouses the values of inclusion and civil rights for all and, by the way, whom most Americans voted for: Hillary Clinton.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
