1. Oscar worthy
Film fans have a chance to be part of the film academy, by watching this year’s Oscar-nominated short films. The Liberty and Kiggins theaters will be screening the documentary, live action and animated short films created from around the globe. Films include “Feast,” Walt Disney Animation Studios’ short from the perspective of a dog, and “Boogaloo and Graham,” a film about life changes as two brothers are given baby chicks to raise. 2. Go Hawks
Local Seattle Seahawks fans will host a 12th Man Fan Rally in downtown Vancouver to celebrate the team’s return to the Super Bowl. There will be music, games, food and more starting at 11 a.m. Jan. 31 in Esther Short Park, 301 W. Sixth St., Vancouver. 3. Writing from the heart
The Professional Writers Series kicks off with Portland author Tom Spanbauer from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 3. He is the founder of Dangerous Writing, a workshop that includes Cheryl Strayed, Chuck Palahniuk and Chelsea Cain among its alumni. His most recent book, “I Loved You More,” explores the dynamics of a love triangle, set over 25 years.
