A multi-vehicle crash seriously injured at least three people and clogged a busy stretch of Mill Plain Boulevard during this evening’s commute.

A westbound black Dodge Durango rear-ended a vehicle on Mill Plain Boulevard near Southeast 126th Avenue, which caused a chain reaction, according to Vancouver police Officer Ilia Botvinnik. The crash in east Vancouver was reported at 5:25 p.m.

At least four vehicles were involved in the collision, Botvinnik said. A fifth vehicle was also struck, but investigators aren’t sure whether it happened during or after the rear-end crash.

“There’s still so much (that’s) unclear,” he said.

At least three people were hospitalized, Botvinnik said. Police diverted traffic around the crash site causing significant traffic backup.

Investigators with the Vancouver Police Department’s traffic unit remained on scene for several hours trying to piece together what happened.
