LAKEWOOD — As the Army restructures forces, it’s looking at reducing the number of troops and civilian jobs at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
As part of the process it’s holding a listening session Wednesday in Lakewood.
The military is considering a cut of 8,000 jobs at the base. The Pierce County Economic Development Department and state Office of Financial Management estimate a potential loss of more than 17,000 jobs, when the impact on other Tacoma area jobs is considered as well.
The listening session is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the McGavick Conference Center in Lakewood.
