SWEET HOME, Ore. — An Oregon woman accused of leading deputies on a car chase that reached speeds of 100 mph had to be rescued after her SUV flipped over and caught fire.
The Linn County sheriff’s office says deputies started following an SUV with its lights off early Tuesday morning on Highway 20 in Sweet Home. The vehicle pulled over, then raced away as a deputy approached.
When deputies caught up to the SUV they found it burning and upside down, with the driver pinned underneath. They rescued the driver, who was taken first to a local hospital, then to a Portland hospital. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The sheriff’s office says 31-year-old Holly Craig of Sweet Home was cited for DUI and attempting to elude police.
