The future is bright for the Stevenson girls basketball team.

And on Saturday, the present wasn’t so bad either.

Freshman Toryi Midland scored 11 points and sophomore Amya St. Martin added 10 more as the Bulldogs beat Hudson’s Bay 50-25 in a non-league game Saturday at Bay.

“We’ve got some good young players,” Stevenson coach Bob McCrum. “And we’ve got some good kids in our middle school program, so the future is bright. But for now, we’re young and there will be some growing pains.”

McCrum called Toryi Midland “the little Midland” even though the freshman stands 6-foot-1. The “big Midland” is her sister, senior guard Taryn Midland, who led the Bulldogs Saturday with 13 points. Taryn stands at 5-9.

“Toryi is the complete package for us,” McCrum said. “She led us with 17 rebounds Friday night (in a loss to Lyle.)”

Taryn Midland provided the early spark Saturday. Her back-to-back jumpers ignited a 10-3 run that allowed Stevenson to build a 21-14 halftime lead.

Taryn Midland kicked off a 10-0 run late in the third quarter as the Bulldogs stretched their lead to 36-16.

Brittany Doolittle had a pair of 3-pointers to lead Hudson’s Bay (0-3) with 10 points.
