PUYALLUP — Authorities say a man in Pierce County is in custody after fatally stabbing a soldier.
The News Tribune reports that the stabbing occurred early Sunday morning at a home near Puyallup.
Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the 29-year-old suspect first stabbed a 36-year-old woman in the back and then stabbed a 34-year-old man in the chest when that person tried to intervene. The man died of his injuries while the woman is at the hospital and expected to survive.
Troyer says the suspect robbed the woman and fled the scene. Deputies were able to find the man and arrested him following a high-speed chase.
Troyer says it was his understanding that the victims and suspect were all military members stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. But Brigade Public Affairs Officer Capt. Lonnie Collier says the base believes the only JBLM soldier involved was the one who died.
