MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Prosecutors say they need more time to decide whether to grant former Auburn basketball player Varez Ward admission into a pre-trial diversion program after he was accused of point-shaving.
Assistant U.S. attorney Susan Redmond told U.S. Magistrate Judge Wallace Capel Jr. in a pre-trial hearing Thursday that they hoped to have a decision by next week. Ward was not present at the hearing.
Ward’s trial was postponed until Feb. 10.
The point guard was arrested in June on bribery and conspiracy charges, accusing him of trying to fix a January 2012 game against Arkansas. He pleaded not guilty.
Ward was suspended before a February 2012 game against Arkansas and did not play for Auburn again.
