Vehicles crash on I-205, car catches on fire

A Toyota Camry went up in flames following a three-car crash on Interstate 205 during Thursday’s rush hour.

No one was injured in the collision.

The crash was reported at 5:26 p.m. on the freeway’s northbound lanes just south of state Highway 500. Additional State Patrol troopers and Washington State Department of Transportation workers were called to assist with the crash.

Jyles B. Peterson, 23, of Longview was driving his 2003 Camry north when he crashed into a 2014 Toyota Camry driven by Yuliya Kibukevich, 18, of Vancouver, according to Trooper Will Finn, spokesman for the Washington State Patrol.

Kibukevich’s car then struck a yellow taxi that was coming from Portland International Airport with two paying customers, driven by Oleg Anulenko, 40, of Portland.

Peterson’s Camry went up in flames. The freeway was blocked for about an hour while police investigated and firefighters extinguished the car fire, Finn said. Northbound traffic was backed up onto the I-205 bridge.

Peterson was cited by the State Patrol for second-degree negligent driving. Finn said speed, inattention and following distance were factors in the crash.
