Girls basketball: Benson 36, Evergreen 30

Chaquinn Cook dominated on defense, leading Benson to a 36-30 victory at Evergreen in the Hoops on the Holiday girls basketball tournament Saturday afternoon.

Cook had five steals, two blocked shots and grabbed nine rebounds to go with her game-high 15 points. She made a running 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer, giving Benson a five-point lead.

Evergreen never got the lead back in the second half.

Moriah Doyle led Evergreen with nine points. She also had six rebounds. Felicia Bahr had four points and a team-high seven rebounds. Lexi Burney had four steals and five offensive rebounds for the Plainsmen.

EVERGREEN — Hayley Avery 4, Moriah Doyle 9, Keilea Swearingen 3, Felicia Bahr 4, Lexi Burney 4, JaNae Calaway 0, Makenzie Smith 2, Stephanie Didenko 0, Alyssa Smith 2, Madison Mitchell 2. Totals 11-43 (1-7) 7-19 30.

BENSON — Chaquinn Cook 15, Lupe Urbano-Garcia 5, Logan Nelson 2, Alize Rutley 5, Zahira Ahmed 6, Dae’onna Kang-Clark 1, Chinwendu Ughamba 2. Totals 11-40 (1-2) 13-24 36.
