A man wielding a knife robbed a convenience store Thursday afternoon in east Vancouver.

The robbery was reported at 3:15 p.m. at Chevron, 16406 S.E. 26th St. The man walked around the front counter, showed the knife and demanded money from the store clerk, according to Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp. He left the store on foot.

A nearby KinderCare was locked down while police canvassed the area for the suspect.

Police reviewed surveillance footage, and apprehended a man several blocks away who matched the suspect description given by witnesses. Police identified him as Josue Javier Martinez-Carbeno, 19.
