A man crossing Northeast 99th Street in Hazel Dell was hit by a car Tuesday evening and taken to the hospital with a possible head injury.

Shortly after 6 p.m., emergency crews responded to reports of a man struck by a car on 99th Street, just west of Highway 99. The man was unconscious but breathing, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

The man, who was wearing a camouflage coat and dark pants, had darted north across a poorly lit part of the street and was struck by a Honda Accord, sheriff’s Sgt. Tony Barnes said. The impact knocked him down and he hit his head, but his injuries were not life-threatening, Barnes said.

He was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. The man’s name and the name of the Accord’s driver were not released.

Barnes said the man was not using a crosswalk when he was struck and that deputies smelled alcohol on his breath. The driver who struck him wasn’t injured and won’t face charges in the incident, Barnes said.
