The Clark College women’s basketball team bounced back from a difficult loss for an 87-42 win Saturday over Grays Harbor.
Nicolette Bond scored 17 points, leading five Penguins in double figures. Dominique Johnson added 14 points and six rebounds.
Clark (8-10, 6-2), which lost 57-56 Wednesday to NWAACC West Division-leading Centralia, wrapped up the first half of league play by scoring 33 points off 25 turnovers by the Chokers.
“We played really well,” coach Al Aldridge said. “One of the aspects of our game that has been missing is we haven’t been getting production points from our defense, so that what was huge.
“We finished the first round of league action, and we’re 6-2 after a pretty dismal non-league start. I think we’ve learned that we can compete with everybody.”
The Penguins shot 49 percent from the field. Bond was 6 of 8, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range. Clark also was credited with 23 assists on its 34 field goals.

MEN: Clark 76, Grays Harbor 59 — The Penguins finished the first half of division play by ending their five-game losing streak thanks to contributions up and down the bench.
Phillip Hertz led Clark (10-7, 3-5) in scoring with 24 points and he also had eight rebounds. Sean Price had 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and Sam Jurgenson had 10 points.
Ronalds Elksnis had 10 rebounds as well as the Penguins owned the boards 51-27.
“This was probably the first time all year that all our guys came off the bench and gave us a lift,” Clark coach Alex Kirk said. “Everyone contributed.”
Kirk credited Levi Gellathy with providing a lift at the start of the game, and Loris Bonneau with providing a spark in the second half.
The Clark teams visit South Puget Sound in Olympia on Wednesday.
