President Obama is expected to make a new push for “comprehensive immigration reform,” something President George W. Bush also tried, but failed at due to massive public opposition.
The deliberative process on such proposed legislation in the past has been a disgrace. Neither the media nor Congress have ever made the least effort to engage in a grown-up debate about the consequences of such policies for the economy and the long-term best interest of our nation and its people.
There are massive adverse consequences to the sort of immigration “reform” now being formulated. Higher unemployment, federal, state, and local governments bankrupted by spiraling program costs, and horrendous overpopulation in the future.
The only way there will be some serious debate on this issue in Congress this time around is if the people confront their elected officials and demand it.
