Boys basketball: Washougal 72, R.A. Long 37

The Panthers took control with a big second quarter in the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League game at Washougal.

Washougal trailed 12-5 early in the game, but thee 3-pointers from Sean Guthrie gave the home team a two-point lead by the end of the opening period. From there, the Panthers (11-5, 3-1) outscored the Lumberjacks 21-7 in the second quarter.

Nate Adams scored seven of his nine points in the big second quarter, when Austin Tran scored six and Aaron Deister five.

Deister and Guthrie scored 12 points apiece, and Tran and Mike Mcelroy had 10 apiece for the Panthers. Patrick Jones led Washougal rebounding with nine boards. Tran had three assists.

Payton Miller had 11 points for R.a. Long (3-11, 0-4).
