Construction crews on Thursday began repairing a section of state Highway 501 near Ridgefield damaged by a landslide in late December.
The work will mean a “parade” of excavators, dump trucks and construction equipment in the area for the next month, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Crews are working in the area near Smythe Road, where about 3,000 cubic yards of earth and debris shifted on Dec. 30, according to WSDOT. They’ll work seven days a week until the job is done.
State officials reduced the speed limit on Highway 501 on Jan. 4, and closed the eastbound lane Jan. 9. Those measures will remain in place until repairs are finished. The work is expected to wrap up by mid-February, according to WSDOT, and is estimated to cost $500,000.
