Vancouver police early Saturday took a juvenile into custody in connection with recent vandalism at businesses in the Lincoln neighborhood.
Sgt. Rod Trumpf said police received a tip. He said several juveniles were identified and one was taken to Clark County Juvenile Center about 2 a.m. Saturday. He did not provide the gender of the suspect.
Trumpf said an investigation of vandalism along 39th Street continues.
“I think it’s a good start,” Scott Flury said Sunday night of the police action. He is the owner of Latte Da Coffeehouse and Wine Bar at 205 E. 39th St. Vandals did nearly $3,000 worth of damage to his business early Wednesday morning.
“It’s not the time to let up,” Flury said. “The community needs to pull together and to follow through with the action plans that we have.”
He said those plans include ensuring streetlights are working and seeing if a Neighbors On Watch group is active in the neighborhood.
Flury said more than 20 people showed up Friday night for a meeting at his business. He said Vancouver police Cpl. Drue Russell attended.
Flury noted that it was not just four businesses and a church that were hit. He said at least two houses had windows broken recently, at least two car windows were smashed and at least one spot was tagged with graffiti.
At his business, vandals apparently used a sledgehammer to break a window.
Also vandalized were Trinity Lutheran Church, Farmers Insurance Group, Prima Bella Salon and West Vancouver Dental, all within about a block of each other.
At Latte Da, Flury said he will install more security cameras, with the new ones pointed at the alley behind his business. Flury opened his shop in June 2011.
