LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Trey Washington III made 5 of 8 from 3-point range and scored a career-high 24 points to lead Wyoming over Western State 69-52 on Wednesday.

Washington, a 5-foot-11 freshman, was 7 of 9 from the floor and also had five rebounds and three assists in the final tune-up for Wyoming (9-4) before its Mountain West Conference opener Saturday at Nevada.

Jordan Adams scored 16 and Mason Biddle added 12 for the Division II Mountaineers (0-10).

Riley Grabau’s 3-pointer with 10:15 remaining gave the Cowboys their widest lead at 53-30 before both coaches substituted freely the rest of the way.

Sparked by Washington, Wyoming used a 12-0 run midway through the first half to wipe out a 14-8 Western State lead, and the Cowboys never trailed again.

Wyoming outshot Western State 51 percent to 36 percent and had a 32-23 rebound advantage.
