BREMERTON — Police in Bremerton say one man was shot and another woman assaulted when a large New Year’s Eve party turned violent.

Lt. Pete Fisher says a large fight broke out at about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday at the Baymont Inn, where hundreds of people had gathered.

He says officers from several agencies were called to assist because many people in the crowd were aggressive, and smaller fights broke out as firefighters were treating the two victims.

Police arrested two people for interfering with officers while they were trying to help the gunshot victim.

A driver who fled the scene and led police on a pursuit was also arrested and booked into Kitsap County Jail on investigation of eluding and DUI. It’s unclear what role that driver had in the shooting.
